Supplement your business sustainability development with outdoor yoga
Developing a conscious business step by step. Building a solid base. Part one. Can sustainability exist without mindfulness? Outdoor yoga might be the first solid and familiar step towards more significant change in you and your organisation.
There has been scientific studies done examining how yoga can possibly have positive impact on person’s environmental behaviour, as well as be a mindful and grounding outdoor activity deepening one’s connection with nature, improving mental health and wellbeing. Perceiving environment with senses and identifying oneness with nature does help individuals form empathy to habituate pro-environmental behaviour which is key for business’s sustainability development and planet’s sustainable future. We decided to share our experience of outdoor yoga.
Why outdoor yoga?
The Sanskrit word ‘Yoga’ means to unite, union, connection between two things. The philosophy is based on the belief that everything is connected and is interdependent, such as animals and plants in the wilderness. Yoga aims to connect person’s body, mind and spirit through postures, breathing techniques and meditation. Individuals through the mindful practise of yoga learns to live in harmony with themselves and the world around. There are different types of outdoor yoga for everyone’s situation or location. You can familiarise with in-depth guide for practising yoga outdoors.
”Experience has been transformational, leaving much stronger effect in a mindful unity between wellbeing and connection with nature.”
What does this mean for business sustainability management?
Sustainability without full employee engagement, understanding and devotion might be considered as shallow and let’s be honest – not really helping the business or the planet. Whether it is difficult for you to increase employees engagement in sustainability activities, pro-environmental behaviours and build a leading green business or you’re a “one-team wonder” that wants to grow it’s freelance business with the planet in mind. The implementation of non-direct ways related to sustainability as such activities in the routine of business, might be actually a solid base to start with, to reach higher mindful interest, engagement and wellbeing, and so overall, a higher sustainability performance.
This is our experience and feedback.
Bonethica founder Rugilé Juodzbalyte has engaged in the practise and took morning yoga to the beach throughout the Summer. Experience has been transformational, leaving much stronger effect in the mindful unity between wellbeing and connection to nature. More impactful than yoga in the studio. Here are some of Rugilé’s personal feedback from the experience on how outdoor yoga enhanced the regular practise and became more than just a sport activity:
Improved focus
Balancing in the contact with the sand, the ground beneath
Closer relationship with physical and spiritual body
Breathing mindfully fresh air and appreciating, consciously experiencing the wind
Joy of bathing in the soft warmness of the morning sun
Calming with repetitive ocean sounds
Significantly increased physical endurance
Increased motivation and mood for the entire day
Appreciation of being in wild nature
Increased awareness and care of the surroundings
Try implementing the change.
